  • My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey (Plume), Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph.D. the moving tale of a Harvard neuroanatomist who suffered a massive left-brain stroke over the course of four hours and lived to tell the story -- 100% recovered! 

  • Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain (Little, Brown), John J. Ratey, MD with Eric Hagerman a fascinating study about the neurons created during aerobic exercise and how we can use them to our advantage. Very promising.

  • The Brain that Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science (Penguin), Norman Doidge, MD intriguing tales of the brain and its plasticity. A surprisingly quick, intellectual read without too much technical content.

  • The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Vintage), Jean-Dominique Bauby the astounding memoir written by a man who was completely paralyzed due to stroke (the victim of "locked-in syndrome"), transcribed by his blinking to letters of the alphabet. Wow!

  • Light on Pranayama: the Yogic Art of Breathing (Crossroad), B.K.S. Iyengar a resource on the lesser-known arena of yoga that involves breathing techniques. These have been known to heal people of a multitude of ailments -- worth a look!

  • Quantum Touch: The Power to Heal (North Atlantic Books), Richard Gordon open your mind to the potential of alternative healing methods, primarily through the power of touch. 

  •  Team Up: Becoming Accountable to Your Dreams (Optimality Press), Pete Mockaitis the author is a personal friend of Pamela's. In it, he explores the benefits and power of accountability and assigning personal responsibility to yourself and your friends to help you accomplish your goals.

  • The Magnesium Miracle (Ballantine Books), Carolyn Dean, MD, ND explains the vital role of magnesium in helping people with serious medical problems or preventing them -- including with traumatic brain injury.

  • The Magnesium Factor (Avery Trade), Mildred Seelig, MD, MPH and Andrea Rosanoff, MS, Ph.D. these authors explore how magnesium can prevent, treat, and help to reverse several medical ailments.

  • How to Make a Good Brain Great: The Amen Clinic Program for Achieving and Sustaining Optimal Mental Performance (Crown Publishing Group), Daniel G. Amen, MD a comprehensive guide to treating the brain and body right from a brain expert and psychiatrist Dr. Amen. An easy read and highly applicable to anyone, not just sufferers of injury!

  • Best Remedies (Reader's Digest), Mary L. Hardy, MD and Debra L. Gordon a big book on integrative medicine and natural remedies for various bodily conditions
